Food, a four letter word that requires no introduction. Whether sour, spicy, savory or sweet, when trying food in a foreign land, you will be sure that your palette will tingle with excitement once you taste something new, special and unique to the country. We sampled quite a far share of food during our four-day trip in Sydney and there were some hit and misses! Let’s do away with the misses and here are some of our top five! Enjoy!
1. Billy Kwong
After hearing about Kylie Kwong and being a fan of her recipes, we were pleasantly surprised to find that her restaurant was located so near our hotel. This place is definitely not the typical Chinese eating house as it exudes ‘fusion’ air. Living up to her name, this place has the best roast duck, roasted to perfection topped with tangy plum sauce… it is delicious! We ordered the crispy dumpling as well it was delicious but the duck had us quacking for more! The ambiance of Billy Kwong is a little dark and can barely see what you are eating, however, this place is worth a visit.
Location: Shop 1, 28 Macleay Street, Potts Point, NSW 2011
Stumbled upon this vintage looking dessert outlet at Surry Hill. What is interesting about this place is that it serves so many interesting varieties of cakes and each piece goes by weight. Totally love the concept and the ambiance of the place. It is a nice place to sit and watch the world go by.
3. Guzman y Gomez
Not being a fan of Mexican food cos of the rubbery dry texture of burritos skin, we stumbled upon this outlet after leaving our hotel. its bright yellow decor pulled our hungry stomach into this eatery. Tried the taco and they were crispy and cheesy with generous amount of toppings, portion was quite monstrous for one (blame it on my small stomach). The burritos and tacos are so different from the ones i have tried and the price is really affordable. We also realized there are several outlets in Singapore so we can always have our taco fix when we feel like it!
Location: 82-84 Darlinghurst Road, Potts Point, Sydney, NSW
Operating hours: 11am to 10pm
4. Flaky Tart Bakery
This place serves the best tarts/pies unfortunately we were too stuffed to try them. We bought some cakes (i consider them lighter bites than pies) and it tasted awesome. They close early so do pop by early to avoid disappointment.
Location: 4 Ennis Rd, Kirribilli, New South Wales, Australia
5. Rivareno Gelato
This shop serves the most amazing pistachio gelato, flavours so rich, smooth and intense! Rivareno Gelato happen to have a pop up store at William Street Festival and we order the last cup of pistachio! Thankfully we were fast if not we would not have been able to sample a taste of pistachio heaven!
